A Day in Barcelona with Kids | Local Guide by Yuumi Peralta

Meet Yuumi Perlata /@yuumiperalta/, a Barcelona based mother of two boys, born in Japan and now raising her little explorers in the city’s warm sunshine.

A jewellery creator, model, and everyday storyteller, Yuumi notices the tiny moments that are easy to miss – slow mornings, playful chaos, and the simple rituals that make family life feel grounded.

Yuumi invites us to join her family on a slow and sunny Saturday in Barcelona – a gentle journey that begins in Eixample, drifts into the heart of Gràcia, and ends right on the border where both neighborhoods meet.

"We keep Saturdays simple, a few little stops, plenty of time, and space for the boys to be curious. Soft rituals make the day feel full."

Exiample, where the afternoon begins

  • Brunch at La Fuga – their afternoon starts at La Fuga, a laid back Eixample spot and a popular meeting point for cyclists and locals. Even with a full Italian menu, it is perfect for a cosy brunch, where the boys choose something sweet and the family eases into weekend mode.

  • Carrer del Consell de Cent – from La Fuga, they wander along Carrer del Consell de Cent, once a regular city road and now newly renovated into a pedestrian focused street. With minimal traffic and wide walking space, it’s a calm, safe path for children – perfect for running ahead, collecting tiny treasures, and exploring freely.

Strolling into Gràcia neighbourhood

  • Plaça de la Virreina – the slow 30 minute walk brings them to this leafy Gràcia square, where the boys can play under the trees while Yuumi takes in the neighbourhood rhythm.

  • Amma Ice Cream – a few steps from Plaça de la Virreina, the family heads to Amma Ice Cream for vegan gelato, their little weekend ritual before moving on with their day.

  • Sendak bookstore – to close the afternoon, they gently make their way toward Sendak, a beautifully curated children’s bookstore sitting right between Gràcia and Eixample. After an active day, its quiet corners, stories, and soft atmosphere offer the perfect moment to unwind before heading home.

A weekend ritual in Barcelona to recreate

Simple, warm, and unhurried. This is how Yuumi’s family loves spending their Saturdays, one gentle stop at a time.

If you are visiting Barcelona with kids, this route is an easy way to see Eixample and Gràcia without overplanning. Brunch, a calm walk, a shady square, vegan gelato, and a children’s bookshop to finish. The kind of afternoon that feels like the city is working with you.

"Peppermint Green is my way of keeping the mood light. It feels playful for the kids, but still calm enough to live with every day."
