A Parent’s Guide to Practical Care for Kids' Soft Furniture

Let’s be honest, a playroom without a few sticky handprints or the odd juice spill is a playroom that isn’t being properly enjoyed! At Wigiwama, we believe that creating a beautiful, whimsical space for your children shouldn’t mean you have to tiptoe around. Our furniture is designed for play, for cuddles, for dens, and for life’s little messes.

You chose Wigiwama because you value stylish design and safe, sustainable materials. But we know the big question is always there: "Is it practical?" The answer is a resounding yes. This guide is here to show you just how simple it is to keep your favourite pieces looking as lovely as the day they arrived. From a washable bean bag to our softest velvet pouffes, we’ve got you covered.

How to Keep Your Wigiwama Looking Wonderful: A Simple Step-by-Step Guide

You’ve likely seen the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 label on everything from baby clothes to bedding. But what is it, really?

Think of it as a global safety certificate for textiles. For a product to earn this label, every single component—from the main fabric to the thread, zips, and fillings—must be tested and proven to be free from a long list of harmful substances. We're talking about over 100 regulated chemicals and many others that could be detrimental to health.

1. Unzip and Remove the Cover

First things first, simply find the zip on your beanbag or sofa and gently open it up. The outer cover will slide off the inner cushion with ease. No wrestling required!

2. Check the Care Label

Give the little label on the inside a quick glance. It has all the specific details for the fabric, but as a rule of thumb, all our standard cotton, corduroy, and velvet covers are designed for a machine wash.

3. Pop it in the Wash

Turn the cover inside out to protect its colour and texture, then pop it into your washing machine on a gentle, low-temperature cycle (we recommend 30°C). This is kinder to the fabric and the planet. Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach.

4. Dry Like a Dream

For the best results, let the cover air-dry. Lay it flat or hang it up away from direct sunlight. We advise against tumble drying as it can cause shrinkage and affect the fabric's lovely texture. Once it's completely dry, simply slip it back on, and it’s ready for the next adventure!

Corduroy, Velvet, or Teddy Fabric: Which is Best for Your Family?

Every Wigiwama fabric is chosen for its combination of style, softness, and durability. But if you're wondering which one is the easiest to care for day-to-day, here’s a little breakdown to help you choose the perfect match for your home.

Classic Corduroy: The Playful Workhorse

Our corduroy is wonderfully robust and brilliant at hiding minor marks between washes. Its ribbed texture is forgiving and tough, making it a fantastic choice for high-traffic play areas. It’s the very definition of durable kids furniture—soft enough for snuggles but tough enough for years of imaginative play.

Teddy Bouclé: The Cosy Cloud

There's nothing quite like the fluffy, cuddly texture of our teddy fabric. For little spills, a quick dab with a damp cloth is often all you need. For a full refresh, the cover washes beautifully, coming out just as soft and inviting. Just be sure to air-dry it to maintain that signature fluffy pile.

Sumptuous Velvet: Surprisingly Simple

Many parents wonder how to clean velvet furniture, thinking it's a delicate material. Our OEKO-TEX® certified velvet is crafted for modern family life. It has a low pile that is less prone to trapping crumbs and is surprisingly resilient. Spills can often be blotted away, and the machine-washable cover ensures it can handle anything your little one throws at it. It’s all the luxury, with none of the fuss.

The truth is, you can’t go wrong. Every piece is Made in Latvia with care, using high-quality, certified materials designed to last.

FAQs

Absolutely. This is our top priority. We use materials that are OEKO-TEX® and GRS® certified, which means they are free from harmful or allergenic substances. They are wonderfully gentle on even the most sensitive skin.

The inner bag containing the non-toxic filling beads is designed to be spot-cleaned only. As the outer cover provides a robust, washable barrier, the inner bag rarely needs attention.

Oh dear! For tougher stains, we recommend spot-treating the area with a gentle stain remover before you put the cover in the wash. Always test the remover on an inconspicuous area first, like an inside seam.
