What to Do in Copenhagen with Kids | Local Guide by Lea Sørensen

Meet Lea / @leasoerensenn /, a mother of two, the founder of a kids’ clothing brand, and the kind of person who makes everyday moments feel like little rituals. She lives in Copenhagen’s Østerbro district and knows how to move through the city slowly, with her boys in tow and a camera tucked somewhere in her tote.

She invites us into her version of Copenhagen. It is not rushed or overly planned. A hidden playground in the middle of a garden. A flower shop that feels like a quiet installation. A café where children can explore while parents enjoy their coffee in peace.

Whether you are visiting with children or simply enjoy places with soul, her guide is one to keep. It is a softer way to experience the city.

"The key is not to plan too much. Copenhagen works best when you leave space for beauty to surprise you."

Morning stroll to King’s Garden (Kongens Have)

"We start our day at home in Østerbro and head towards the King’s Garden." Lea and her boys begin the morning in their own neighbourhood. From there, it is a walk straight to one of Copenhagen’s most iconic parks.

  • King’s Garden – One of the oldest parks in Copenhagen, surrounded by flowers, wide paths and plenty of space for kids to explore.

  • Hercules Pavilion – A charming café right in the park. A quiet coffee here is part of the ritual — something warm for Lea, something fun for the boys.

  • Playground in the garden – Tucked away and easy to miss, this small playground is a favourite. Not too busy. Just enough for climbing, digging and a bit of fun.

  • Picnic under a tree – After playing, they settle down in a shady spot for a light picnic. No big plan, just a moment to sit and enjoy the calm before heading on.

Store Strandstræde – a must-visit street for design lovers

"Once we’ve eaten and played, we stroll toward one of my favourite streets in Copenhagen – Store Strandstræde."

  • Tableau – The most beautiful flower shop. It feels more like a gallery than a florist. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s worth a look.

  • Skall Studio – A Danish brand with timeless clothing and the loveliest boutique. Soft colours, calm atmosphere, clothes you’ll wear forever.

  • COlabel – My all-time favourite children’s store. I always find something good here — whether it’s a gift or just a little treat. And the boys know there’s usually something fun hiding inside.

Lovely family café Børneboblen in Amager

"To end the day, we hop on the metro to Amager and visit Børneboblen — the loveliest kids’ café, where little ones can play freely while parents enjoy great coffee in peace."

After a full day of walking, playing and exploring, Børneboblen is where Lea likes to slow it all down. It is warm, calm and made for families who need a little breather.

The space is simple but thoughtful – a play area that feels open and relaxed, with soft corners, good coffee and a peaceful corner for feeding or changing. You will even spot a few Wigiwama pieces – Brown Sugar Beanbag, Blueberry Blue Playset, Terrazzo Moss Pouffe, Toffee Flip Chair – in the lounge area. They blend right in with the soft tones and cosy feel of the space.

It is one of those thoughtful spots for both kids and grown-ups.

"Spaces matter. They shape how we feel, how we connect, and how our children grow into themselves."

When shared values guide how we live and parent

Lea knows that quality time and good design are not just things we stumble into. They are things we cultivate, especially from an early age. This belief is at the heart of what we do at Wigiwama, and it is something Lea brings to life in her own way.

We are happy to have her as part of the Wigi-Family. Not just for her eye, but for the way she shares it. Her suggestions come from experience – from everyday moments that turn into lasting memories for her and her family.

This is what our Wigi-Family community stands for. Learning from one another, passing on what matters and creating something stronger through care and connection.
