Meet the Flipster: the latest addition to Wigiwama’s modular furniture collection

In early 2025, Wigiwama launched the Flipster, a new piece with three modular elements that effortlessly transforms from a cosy reading and lounging spot, to a children's imaginative play fort, and even an extra bed for those spontaneous sleepovers!

"Children's furniture should be functional and fun, but also aesthetically pleasing. By surrounding kids with thoughtfully designed pieces, we encourage an appreciation of quality, balance, and beauty from an early age."

- Mark Litvyakov, Wigiwama Product Designer

The process of creation

The Flipster is actually an evolution of Wigiwama's existing Flip Chair, but with some clever tweaks and thoughtful refinements. "Our aim was to increase both comfort and functionality, while maintaining an elegant aesthetic that would fit seamlessly into any home," explains Mark. Inspired by geometric shapes and the Bauhaus philosophy, the Flipster indeed reflects a minimalist yet highly functional approach to design. "For me, simple, classic shapes are key to achieving a timeless aesthetic. We play with different forms, observe how they interact, refine what doesn't quite work and keep coming up with innovative solutions," adds Mark. As always, the most creative ideas may have functional constraints that affect the shape of the final product: "When working with foam, complex shapes aren't always feasible, so we had to focus on clean, simple lines. The real challenge was to ensure that the Flipster remains comfortable and versatile in all its uses – from sitting to playing to sleeping".

Modular & multifunctional

The Flipster is a logical continuation of Wigiwama's collection based on the modular concept. Its design consists of three elements: a main structure that transforms from a chair into a bed, and two accompanying bolsters that serve as a backrest or imaginative play pieces. "I think that the Flipster particularly excels as an extra bed for sleepovers," Mark shares. As a chair, it’s even comfortable for adults, but for children up to 11 years old, it’s ready for anything.

Designed to empower

The environment, with all its elements, has a huge impact on the development of young minds. "We want to encourage children's independence by designing furniture that they can easily manage themselves," comments Mark. "That is why our pieces, including the Flipster, are lightweight and easy to move. It allows children to take charge of their space, rearrange it as they like, and create their own little worlds, encouraging both creativity and self-sufficiency."

For parents' peace of mind, the Flipster is built to withstand everyday adventures. "We know that children's furniture needs to be both durable and easy to clean," emphasizes Mark. "That's why we always choose high-quality, washable fabrics and sturdy construction that can cope with all the bouncing and rearranging that comes with play."

Designed with comfort and versatility in mind, the Flipster is suitable for both children and adults.

Cultivating good taste from the start

At Wigiwama, we believe that good taste is best nurtured from a young age. That's why we carefully curate our selection of fabrics and colors to ensure that our pieces enhance a space rather than overwhelm it. "We opt for a palette that is both vibrant and timeless, something that sparks joy for children while seamlessly blending into a home's design," explains Mark. Whether placed in a playroom or a living room, the Flipster adapts effortlessly to different environments. "Children's furniture should be functional and fun, but also aesthetically pleasing. By surrounding kids with thoughtfully designed pieces, we encourage an appreciation of quality, balance, and beauty from an early age."

Currently available in two of Wigiwama's signature fabrics (corduroy and teddy fabric) and seven vibrant colours, being ready to brighten up any room.
